About that Jason Bateman post that has 229 recs...

Jason Bateman is right. It’s time to start calling out his voters, not him. “Trump voters just increased the deficit by 5 trillion dollars.” “Trump voters just deported a kid with cancer.” “Trump voters just approved kicking 13 million people off health insurance.” “Trump voters are excited about selling off our public lands.” They don’t get to hide behind their votes. They knew what they were voting for and They are responsible for the consequences.

Just to clarify, the sentiment is Jason’s (from an interview with Nicole Wallace), the examples are mine. Don’t want to misquote him.

9. There is a DU thread this AM (with 229 recs) that contains a meme that gives the impression it was quoting Bateman

directly. It is chock-full of posters believing that Bateman said the words in the meme.

Since then the creator of the meme itself (sandra_k_paintings) has clarified the words in it are her words, not Bateman's, but that he expressed the general sentiment.

Demmiblue is clarifying the misunderstanding that people had about the subject in her post here.

If Demmiblue intended a point beyond that, I would assume it would be for people to maybe be more careful about believing everything they read in memes.

And if she wasn't intending that, then allow me to make that point, because I feel exactly that way

Here is the problem, IMO, I think we are going to have to get a significant number of unwashed Magats to join us, things will have to get that bad, before we will be able to throw out the billionaires.

13. Or just the wishy-washy

squishy center "independents" who don't consistently vote Democratic. Hardcore magas have a ceiling in their electoral ability. Posts like Bateman's (and sandra_k_paintings') alert the wishy washy voters of who they don't want to be lumped with. Hopefully. The odds of them becoming more solidly Democratic are higher than magas jumping ship.

He did say in Nicole Williams podcast that Trump voters insulate themselves from facts. Most of the stories now are about the RW backlash especially on Fox.

The actor didn’t waste any time in hitting out at Trump and the voters, who he said are making a conscious effort to hide themselves from the truth of what is going on in the world: “There is no attempt to hide that from the Republican voters”, he said. “It’s ubiquitous. It is. You have to go, you have to make a real effort to stay insulated from the facts.”

“They are, by choice, keeping themselves insulated from those facts”, he added. “Or, when they do hear them, they use their intelligence to discount it and somehow feel more intelligent.”
By this point, there was no way Wallace was interrupting Bateman: “They imagine there’s actually a conspiracy, and that there’s a deep state, and that somehow that’s a more complicated thought—and so that makes them feel smarter.
“It’s not like there’s some big effort to dupe America into thinking that Donald Trump is a bad guy, you know?”

11. I rec'd it (I believe...) for the sentiment -- not for who the sentiment was coming from.

Thank you for the clarification but I will now being going back to make sure I rec'd it and, if I hadn't, I will be rec'ing it then.

EDIT: I had not rec'd it, so I went ahead and added my rec -- up to 255 recs now!
