(8,710 posts)...until the shutdown is over. That's the way it works for the vast majority of those who are "excepted" - the "non excepted" stay home, and the "excepted" go into work as usual, with everyone being paid afterwards.
At my former agency (retired effective 30 Sep), most of the analysts are still working, and this time, they made all of the HR retirement specialists "excepted" as well so that they work the massive number of retirements that took effect on 30 Sep due to DRP.
The only people who are working and getting paid are those agencies that bring money in for fees, etc., and don't rely solely on federal appropriations for payroll expenses, for example, the Patent & Trademark office. Per a friend who works there, they have enough money put back that they can keep paying employees for approximately two months.
