It's Peter the Great's summer palace west of Petersburg.

Catherine the Great's was no less sumptuous down in Pushkino.

But it was the style back in the Baroque--one would hardly consider the kings of France in the 1700s to be Putin's puppets ... Yet Versailles' ballroom.

This holdover from the Baroque period seems to be a desire become like the royal despots of the 18th century. Complete with conspicuous poor taste consumption.

The present-day dictator's Versailles. Hard to tell the difference.
