Feds charge woman shot by Border Patrol

By Kaitlin Washburn, Jon Seidel, Violet Miller and Kade Heather
Oct 5, 2025, 12:22pm EDT

... The charges filed Sunday morning accuse Marimar Martinez, 30, and Anthony Ian Sontos Ruiz, 21, of driving vehicles in a civilian “convoy” that was following federal agents driving as part of a security detail for a Customs and Border Protection operation ...

When the agents’ vehicle got to around 39th Street and Kedzie Avenue, civilian vehicles boxed them in, and Martinez drove her vehicle up along the driver’s side of one of the agent’s vehicles, according to the charges. That’s when Martinez’s vehicle sideswiped the federal vehicle, and Ruiz’s vehicle struck the rear-right end of the federal vehicle, the charges state.

Agents then got out of the vehicle, as Martinez then drove toward one of those agents, according to the charges. The agent then fired “approximately five shots from his service weapon at the driver of the Martinez vehicle,” the charges state. Martinez continued driving north on Kedzie, the charges state.

After the shooting, Ruiz backed up his car and drove to a gas station, where authorities arrested him, according to the charges. Paramedics found Martinez at a repair shop near 35th Street and California Avenue, about a mile northwest of from where the shooting happened, and she was treated at a hospital for “gunshot wounds,” the charges state ...

... The charges do not mention anything about Martinez being found with a gun ...

So maybe ICE sideswiped her car in furtherance of a targeted assassination attempt

Some dirty cops are alleged to carry "drop guns", thst they can plant like drugs to expidite prosecution. This is so henious, but we must forever assume all charged are innocent unless they publicly state otherwise themselves.

...would always carry an unregistered "throw down" in an ankle holster when he was on duty. The handle was wrapped with duct tape making it hard to lift fingerprints. Supposedly it was common practice. I didn't doubt it for a minute.

at law enforcement officers on foot, you run the risk of getting shot.

Happens all the time.

No mention of a grand jury, so are these charges before a grand jury? A lot of stinky stuff here.

…I am not seeing a collective effort to “box in” federal agents.

What I see is traffic in a heavily congested construction zone in a residential/light commercial neighborhood.

It would have been extremely difficult to execute a coordinated effort in the video below…
