They can but we hardly ever see them do that. Just don't throw them from a helicopter.

Funny episode.

(What is terminal velocity for a frozen plucked bird?)

Rather like pumpkin chunkin, though. (KROK's morning guys in the '90s used to do/talk about that.)

The GM of WQXI told him about the turkey drop promotion they had done when he was at KBOX in Dallas. They dropped them from a flatbed truck rather than a helicopter, but hilarity ensued. When Wilson heard the story he said “You just won me an Emmy!”. Sadly, he was wrong, but it’s a great episode from a great show.

Wild Turkeys CAN fly, they just don't like to, unless absolutely necessary, like flying up to their roosts, or across the road.

We've had flocks of hens and poults, with occasional toms and jakes, swarm our bird feeders in a deep-snow winter, leaving an abundance of poopsicles for the dogs to snack on. Gross!

Here on Cape Cod there are many groups of turkeys that wander all over during the day. When it turns dark they fly up into tall trees where they roost for the night. And if your car is parked under one of those trees you awake to turkey crap all over the car… yes, turkeys do fly!

It brought back this childhood memory. I saw this happen in my small Missouri town! Just picture it, taking a couple of hundred turkeys to the top of the bank building (about 4 stories tall) turkeys can’t fly from that height either, oh the carnage. My dad got one when it hit the ground, it was still alive when he got it to the car. The poor thing had a broken wing and leg and probably internal injuries, dad put it out of its misery when we got it home. I don’t think I could eat any of it.
