Vice President JD Vance last week called falling marriage rates a big problem. The deputy secretary of Health and Human Services in December urged his agency to make America fertile again. And at a recent conference for young conservatives, Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, doubled down on the importance of marriage and children, holding out his nine kids as a model for others to follow.
But one year into President Trumps second term, his administration has enacted few policies to reduce the rising cost of having children frustrating some conservatives who expected Mr. Trump to prioritize their plans to boost the U.S. birthrate as it continues to drop.
Some Republicans in Congress and leading conservative policy groups have pushed unsuccessfully to significantly expand tax credits for families or introduce a baby bonus for all new moms, proposals that Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance had championed in the past. Mr. Trumps plans for combating infertility have also largely stalled out, after the administration announced a new policy on in vitro fertilization in October that fell far short of Mr. Trumps campaign promise to make the procedure free.
If your version of being pro-family is talking about how great families are and encouraging people to get married and have kids, you end up doing a lot of lip service without changing the material and economic conditions on the ground, said Patrick T. Brown, who focuses on family policy at the conservative Ethics and Public Policy Center. Just the bully pulpit alone is not really enough.

OK, speaking as woman who is now past her child-bearing years: I am so thankful that I have no surviving children.
This world is FUCKED, and AFAIAC, the human race can't go extinct quickly enough. We've tortured and killed enough of our fellow creatures to prove that we don't deserve this lovely planet. (I'm speaking collectively here, I know that there are many caring people out there, but we are VASTLY outnumbered). There is something deeply wrong and cruel about our species.
If I were a young woman right now, I would probably opt for PERMANENT birth control, given that I would not have any guaranteed bodily autonomy in this country. I can see more an more women following the Korean 4B movement.

(28,468 posts)who are already on board with the "have as many children as possible" thing, women are NOT going to be having lots more children. Mere tax incentives are laughable.
You have to wonder what planet these people live on.

(129,215 posts)It was created in 1935 as a remedy for Germany's decreasing birth rate and to increase the number of "racially pure" citizens. The Cross of Honour of the German Mother was given to the women who bore the most Aryan children. Is that where this is going?

(4,051 posts)unemployment was very low which made having children more affordable. These nazi-wannabe magas are too dumb to make such a plan workable.

The "baby bonus" that President Trump promised is a one-time
$1,000 government contribution to a new, specialized investment account for eligible newborns, known as a "Trump Account".
This initiative was signed into law as part of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA) in July 2025 and is intended to provide a long-term financial head start for children.
Key Details of the Trump Accounts Program
Eligibility: The $1,000 contribution is available for U.S. citizens born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, who have a valid Social Security number.
Account Function: The funds are invested in low-cost U.S. stock index funds and grow tax-deferred. The account generally functions like a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA) after the child turns 18.
Access to Funds: The money generally cannot be withdrawn until the child reaches age 18. After that, withdrawals for qualifying expenses such as education, a first-time home purchase, or starting a small business may avoid an early withdrawal penalty, though they are still taxed as ordinary income.

(129,215 posts)$1,000 eighteen years later? Yes, there will be interest as well, but big whoopee. Raising a kid is expensive, and even though $1,000 now won't go very far, it would be at least a little help. I doubt many families will be motivated to reproduce like rabbits just because their kids will get some money in 18 years if they live to grow up, considering that they might not get vaccinated.

(31,691 posts)I remember some moron or other saying that about rape ( not possible to get pregnant after a rape was his assertion ).
BUT, for NOT rape... he is correct. Women do have a way to shut this down. They don't fuck ( or marry ) you incel idiots with no jobs and who don't respect women. Fucking Bitch indeed.
To raise a family you want stability, hope, peace, and a steady partner ( of whatever sex ). War, the threat of war, civil unrest, failing job market, and toxic politics are not conducive to people thinking "hey, NOW would be a great time to be pregnant and start a family"
Fucking ( well... couch fucking ) morons.

(2,560 posts)a higher percentage of these women do not want to date, let alone marry and have children with MAGA men. In many States there isn't enough access to OB-GYNs to help women who wish to have a child. The economy is bad. Young women can't afford homes or rent so there's no place to raise the baby if you wanted to. And then there's the gun violence. The con and MAGA have created an awful environment for women of Reproductive age.

(24,896 posts)..... It eventually transpires each of the 94 targets has a son aged 13, a genetic clone of Adolf Hitler planted by Mengele and, through corrupt adoption agency employees, placed with families that have lives similar to Hitler's own upbringing. Mengele wishes to create a new Führer for a revitalized Nazi movement, and is thus trying to ensure that the lives of the clones follow a similar path to Hitler's.....

As for Trump, the ol' broomstick up the butt procedure can produce results (used BTW by Nazi medical "experimenters" during the war so it seems especially applicable here).

(8,735 posts)As a species, we are way short on love. Hate, anger, violence...we've got a whole lot of that.
As a species, we are very much inclined to treat anyone different from ourselves with disdain.
Granted, there are a lot of kind, compassionate, loving people out there but, as the poster says, we are greatly outnumbered.
And now the US is teetering on the brink because hate has control of the government.
This is pretty much the same as what happened in Germany in the 1930's. Their excuse was the great depression, and reparations from WW1.
Americans have no such excuse.
We're actually doing pretty well financially, but the problem is that a certain part of the human race isn't liking that other parts are able to do well at all.
Greed, selfishness, fear, violence; all this and more are manifesting as a blind hatred for the "not us".
Even if we're able to find our way out of this current mess, and restore the rule of law, we'll see this happen again and again. Something is wrong with humanity, and I don't believe it can ever be fixed.

(3,204 posts)The last thing that is needed is any kind of accelerated breeding program.
These Republican a$$holes can't be bothered with creating the kind of civilization that would honestly be conducive to wanting to have kids. Justice and freedom for all? Economic equality? Not on their watch.
They definitely don't have either the intelligence or the heart to share the planet fairly with All Our Relations, (which are the other beings who live on this planet with us). And their refusal to even acknowledge that all life on this planet is dependent on Earth's life support systems remaining healthy and intact, is reason enough to avoid their forced birth and domestic slavery for women agenda.
The best decision that I ever made was to Not Breed!
No woman with even the tiniest shred of self respect wants anything to do with abusive incel pricks so they can just STFU.

(9,691 posts)Their idea of predatory capitalism requires infinite growth & enough workers to support an aging population. Immigration will fix that. But we know they don't want all those Black & Brown babies.
How to fix that? Strengthen the social safety net. Make housing, child care, & maternity care safe & affordable.
They won't do that either.
