l'm Still Weeping...

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

When Reason rules, law becomes the architecture of trust: it shields the vulnerable, limits the powerful, and turns raw force into a shared safeguard rather than the tool of domination we see today.

...Shakespeare films I've ever seen, and I've seen many.

The only comparable, for absolute depth, film version of Shakespeare is Branaugh's Hamlet.

of seeing through all the trappings of those who thought themselves superior to others.

I can't believe that Richard Harris said McKellen's acting was "passionless."

Of all the roles I've played in my lifetime I enjoyed Shakesperean characters the most. Many people don't understand Shakesperean English. They think it's a totally different language than modern English, but that's no so. True, it needs to be studied, but there really isn't a "translation" problem involved.

An excellent performance by Sir Ian, at any rate. Shakespeare begs for passion in his works.

Oppression isn’t just brute force; it’s brute force wrapped in a narrative people are persuaded to accept.

When law is an instrument and power rests on shared delusions, clear‑headed people have a duty to resist; otherwise, as we now see, the very doctrines of standing, prosecutorial discretion, and emergency powers that once guarded rights become tools to erase them.

When reason rules, law becomes a safeguard rather than a weapon.

Here's to the ongoing restoration of our freedoms through our nation's ongoing return to reasoned rule.
