The last young man in his 30’s, a peacenik the last I saw him, just signed up for the Air Force. Said he was offered everything he asked for…….I guess the booming job market forced him to do what he has avoided for years. Both of his parents, his brother and uncle all make a nice fat living off of this! Big jobs at GE, retirement and selling war every step of the way. I’ve supported these people but they always held themselves above me. I told them I’m the one calling Congress members about their benefits, making sure they know that you deserve a mission that is well planned and worth your one life. I’m the one packing the supplies you needed in Iraq. I was the one standing on the Mall with 500,000 other Americans begging that they not push a surge in Iraq. And yet…here we are. I’m with this woman. If you voted T the last time, if you still support him or not I’m done with you. There is nothing you can say to change my mind. This monster is killing our country and the planet. Troops are fungible as Rummy said! This man thinks even less than that about dead or injured troops. He is out of his mind and still people leave him in the seat of power.

People sign up to serve with the understanding that we promised to take care of their health and not abuse their gift of service. their already fragile VA system is being harvested and raided as if a hedge fund bought it for parts.

Anyway. Yesterday morning I held the letter signed by President Obama that reads:

The United States of America
honors the memory of

This certificate is awarded by a grateful
Nation and recognition of devoted and selfless consecration to the service
Our country in the armed forces of the United States.

I don't know if the text in the letters change depending on the president and his (or one day her) thoughts. I realize this was signed by autopen. Doesn't matter to me.

If today Mr. Тяцмp were to write such a letter, without mocking his absurd speaking tics but focusing on substance it would read:

Hello poor person. Because you are inferior, you are willing to risk your life for very little pay.
