Does the Netanyahu government want Iran to be a failed state?

Some of what has happened and is happening (ie no plans other than bombing) would make more sense if Israel didn't want Iran to become a thriving democracy, but just a failed state. Even a more secular, democratic Iran might oppose Israel.

5. Well, the Israeli people have had 20 years to get rid of him and have chosen otherwise.

So the fact is that, although a great many Jews globally do not support Netanyahu, this is, in fact, what the country of Israel has chosen to be.

We can't blame every Jew for what Israel is doing, any more than anybody can blame every American for what Trump is doing. But the USA is what it has become and same for Israel. I weep for all the kind peace-loving Jews out there. The actions of Israel mean that all Jews will be in greater danger. And that is a tragedy that is not getting much attention.

But because of the coalition system they use, he has been able to cobble together a coalition with the religious/nationalist parties.

It's a dumb system IMO, but they changed it once and they didn't like the outcomes.

I can't say that is what has happened to Israel, but I see it in the US continuously. People are far more interested in which quarterback is getting a big contract than whether we are turning into an authoritarian state. The "opiates of the masses" are hard at work, and sadly this LITERALLY includes opiates.

The weaker Iran is, the greater the "security" for Israel.

The building where the selection of new leaders takes place was bombed.

Trump said, today I think, that the new leaders he might have agreed to are all dead. Guess who would have killed them? Looks like Trump is not the one in charge here.

Israel wants to be the only kid on the block with a BB gun (nuclear missiles actually) and bully the neighbourhood kids. Not just to steal their lunch but steal the neighbours' lands too. It's called the Greater Israel Project. Or as Netanyahu promised - a "reshaping of the Middle East".

7. Honestly, I think Israel reached a new level of paranoia after 10/07

Some of it was understandable. They were horrific attacks, but it’s clear much of the response since was just political cover for Netanyahu. Once they shifted toward hezbollah and killed nasrallah, it was clear they were intent on settling all scores. Hamas was relatively easy and Israel ran out targets quickly, so they just resorted to killing as many civilians as possible and calling them all Hamas.

What pisses me off is that we have leadership that simply goes along with whatever Israel wants. Netanyahu has wanted Iran bombed for decades now.l and to really avoid opening a Pandora’s box in the region, Obama was looking for non kinetic means (like the Stuxnet virus) and eventually working on the nuclear agreement.

I understand Israel has viewed Iran as a major threat (even existential), but it’s not our job as Americans to back every one of Israel’s stupid moves. Cut Israeli military aid off and then they may think twice when funding for the iron dome and David’s sling dries up. Those are very expensive systems and who knows how many cheap drones Iran has to keep throwing out there. It’s a lot more expensive to intercept them than launch it.

11. What incredible Hubris and arrogance by both Israel and the US to think that they can bomb a 4000

…year old culture into submission after several days and taking out their 86 year old leader and some of the leadership.

I think this is going to go terribly wrong for both Israel and the US and the price we will all be is going to be huge. I know this is likely a minority view by many even here on DU - but I am seeing a very dark scenario playing itself out here including with Bibi and our toddler king resulting to the use of Nukes and both going down in history as having made us all lose and suffer in the end.

I even think Saudi Arabia and UAE who have lined our corrupt PEdophile in chiefs pockets will in the end have rolled him and played him.
