bombing and killing the top Iranian government leaders and their famlies was in the near future and they did not want to be deterred.

Therefore, firing of experts and people most knowledgeable was their goal.

Unfortunately, it again was a really bad plan, and it backfired. Many have died, including children.

This is nothing new for Republicans. The Bush neocons had no use for State Dept and military experts who advised that invading Iraq and maintaining order until a stable government could emerge would require a lot more troops & treasure, and take a lot longer than they were planning.
