In my town, there's a gas station every half mile or so, and you're constantly reminded of the current price for gas.

(26,384 posts)The only thing about gas that's likely to go down is its availability while Hormuz remains closed.

(53,440 posts)For him, reality is whatever he says it is. He thinks he is magic and can create any reality he chooses.
Skittles
(172,621 posts)he lives in his own reality and his bootlickers participate in his delusions
PatSeg
(53,440 posts)like he does. He doesn't even try to sound credible and when his mistakes are called out, he just doubles down and repeats them again.
It reminds me of when he kept referring to the "Spanish Flu" of 1918 as the flu of 1917. The mistake was pointed out over and over again, yet he STILL called it the 1917 Flu. Who does stuff like that? Everyone else in the world is wrong and HE is right?
Skittles
(172,621 posts)and yes, it is ridiculous beyond belief in ANYONE but pretty catastrophic in a fucking "PRESIDENT"
PatSeg
(53,440 posts)and admitting he is wrong is like a death sentence for him. We've been watching all his traumatic childhood issues playing out daily as he repeats the same cruel taunts and putdowns he experienced as a child.
How different the world might be if this man-child had had meaningful therapy when he was young. Though there is no way to know for sure. Perhaps he would be just as bad.

(172,621 posts)yet so many people see something of VALUE there - UGH!

(53,440 posts)If the average person met a Trump-like man in any other setting or even as a character in a movie, they would immediately know there is something seriously wrong with him, yet we had tens of millions of Americans who voted for him to lead our country............most of them voted for him TWICE!
What the hell!?!? How is that possible? He tells the world who and what he is every single day. I don't think I'll ever understand it.
Skittles
(172,621 posts)it wasn't until Trump came along that I started to realize just how many of these fucking morons exist
PatSeg
(53,440 posts)I've known such people throughout my life, but I never imagined there were so many of them. How many rocks have they been hiding under all these years?
Of course, the other side of the story is that these are the kinds of people who didn't used to vote. They had no real interest in politics, government, or democracy. But they did watch reality TV and Fox News which transitioned into the Tea Party people and eventually MAGA.
It is a social thing for them like a club which clearly has become a cult. They would show up at rallies with lawn chairs, coolers, signage, and totally weird costumes - a picnic or a party. These weren't serious voters, they were people looking to socialize and Trump gave them a reason to meet with like-minded people. I would like to think that perhaps a better educational system could have prevented this.
Skittles
(172,621 posts)you are correct, these morons didn't used to vote
I remember the shock some of them expressed when Biden won - they opined WTF, there weren't mega-rallies for Biden and no prolific Biden merch - yeah, BECAUSE WE'RE NOT A FUCKING CULT
PatSeg
(53,440 posts)Being they haven't had any real understanding or interest in politics, they just couldn't understand their "rockstar" candidate losing to an ordinary, dull old politician like Biden. That was why it was so easy for them to believe Biden cheated.
Unfortunately, out of all this did come some more serious supporters without the lawn chairs, the ones who believed there was some valiant cause and they came heavily armed to start a new revolution. They were just waiting for a man to come along and lead them in their pursuit of justice. Just like in the movies I suppose.

(1,077 posts)...because I was low on gas and that's where the opportunity arose to get some. I paid $5.199 per gallon, the most I've ever spent. It has gone up since, not down.
The real tragedy here is that some people will believe it, because their savior said it.
OhioBack2Blue
(188 posts)Yup. Reg will have to go over $5 in Ohio to get the cult to feel pain.
But also, by the same token, it will have to go over $5 to get the "midwest nice, keep the peace at all costs 'moderates,' 'centrists,' and left leaners" to also feel any emotion or gasp, passion to act.
They are both nearly impenetrable.
We were at $4.99, now at $4.88.

(25,117 posts)It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed

(10,341 posts)I have receipts from several months ago with mid-grade gas prices marked at three and some thing per gallon. More recently Ive been paying four and something in Colorado and New Mexico and FIVE and something in the Rocky Mountain high country. Who do I believe, Donald John or my gas receipts and my lying eyes?
Answer: the latter two.
And whats more, I expect petrol prices to go further UP, not down!

(17,714 posts)And that was with my Kroger points I saved up for the month of April. Fortunately I am retired and own a Honda Civic, so I usually only fill up once a month, but my total was $48 and my tank wasn't even almost empty. Ever since I've owned that car (2015) it has cost me anywhere between $20-$28 to fill up.
Let's not forget about the impact it has on just about everything else also. Every single one of my monthly utility bills has gone up and not just a little. Then there's the cost of groceries. I feel sorry for people trying to raise children and run a household in this economy.
