They can drive up gas prices, drive up debt, take away freedoms, have an unpopular war, cut popular social programs, gerrymander like mar, while we seldom enact our agenda and its often watered down, and if we try fighting back, the courts overrule us.
Virginia should - should - just ignore the court. DeFascist even admitted the new Florida law violates the Florida Constitution, but he doesnt care.
Good news, we can still win the House and Senate, even if itll be like pulling teeth.
Oh, and in the event we flip/win any trifectas at the state level this year, all blue run states, including VA, better draw for 2028 the minute the ball from Times Square drops for 2027.

Now, lawmakers are moving to change or completely roll back parts of Clean Missouri, with a focus on redistricting.
Right before the filing deadline for legislation earlier this month, five resolutions were proposed between the Missouri House and the Senate, all of which relate to changing or repealing the redistricting measures enacted from Amendment 1, as well as lobbying and open records measures. All of them propose new constitutional amendments, which would send the issue back to voters to decide.
Clean Missouri issued a statement in response to the resolutions filing, condemning them and asserting that the decision of the voters should remain in place.
In November 2018, Missourians overwhelmingly supported a new, fair redistricting process that took away the influence of lobbyists and insiders when crafting new maps, the statement said. Voters enacted a new system with checks and balances to create districts where candidates will actually have to earn their votes, and to ensure that no political party gets an unfair advantage in any new maps.
The statement also provided quotes from several individuals, including one former Republican lawmaker from Lees Summit, Bob Johnson.
Their mandate from more than 1.4 million Missourians was clear: fair and competitive maps, he said in the statement.
... snip...
The final resolution, HJR 57, proposed by Rep. Jeff Pogue, R-Salem, repeals Amendment 1 in its entirety.

(22,601 posts)From the days of Anita Bryant and Lee Atwater, they've developed a propaganda network the likes of which this country has never seen. Divide and conquer. Don't mind the rich stealing from you. Just irrationally hate somebody! One of the driving forces has always been racism. Particularly in the south and certain Midwest states. Mizzou included. I saw it from the time I was in primary school in TN back in the early 70's with the uproar over deseg. It hasn't changed one bit.
LBJ summed that up best...
"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

(22,601 posts)Recent events have certainly fired up the Dem base and made a lot of independents quite mad. As though we needed even more to stoke those flames. A number of Republicans, including some targeted in the Indiana state senate races, thought gerrymandering to this extent was dangerous. When you dilute blue votes, you're also diluting red votes as well. It's not like they suddenly hatched more red votes from the rocks and trees. So instead of a bunch of really safe, greater than +10 red districts, you've got a whole lot more +5 red or less. In this climate, that might be disastrous for them. Time will tell.

(2,826 posts)The solution is staring us in the face. Vote against the politicians backed by big money. That includes foreign money, union money (police, prison guards, etc.) and especially corporations and pacs that hide donors.
Locally, I eliminate the politicians with the most expensive and the most flyers. My local politicians love to hide their affiliation and don't hold debates hoping you don't find out their true agenda until it's too late.
If you have time, look up the politics of the City of Vernon in the Los Angeles area. Very low residential population which the fifedom literally controlled for 40+ years.
