MI-SEN: New poll finds Abdul El-Sayed surging in Michigan U.S. Senate primary

Left-wing candidate Abdul El-Sayed is now leading Michigan’s Democratic Party primary for U.S. Senate, according to a new poll.

It finds El-Sayed has emerged as the race’s clear frontrunner with 28% support, ahead of U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens at 18% and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow at 17%.

El-Sayed, a former Detroit and Wayne County health official who unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2018, said the poll shows voters want change from the Democratic Party.

“For too long, too many Michiganders have felt like no one in our politics sees them, hears them, or is willing to fight for them. This campaign has always been about changing that,” El-Sayed said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful to every Michigander who has shared their story, come to an event, volunteered, or taken a chance on this campaign. This momentum belongs to the folks who built it.”

Just didn’t read that way to me. Here is the answer to that question I found. I think there were many Dems with this nuanced position.

Yes, Abdul El-Sayed supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election, despite being a prominent supporter of the "Uncommitted movement" that protested the Biden-Harris administration's policies during the primary. He clarified that he backed Harris over Donald Trump, while continuing to criticize the administration's stance on Israel.

Not quite Bernie sanders. But not Kamala Harris (who relied mostly on large donors) either

or even WHAT POLL this was supposed to be, unless I somehow missed it....

I'll take it with a bucket of salt, since it contradicts every other poll previously taken of this race.

I'm voting in Michigan, and I'm voting for McMorrow.

There was a link in the article (to a Dropbox! I may never get over the fact someone made me go to a Dropbox in 2026).

If you look at the numbers and who they polled and how they polled, I wouldn't really pay it any mind.

"We sent a text message to a Survey Monkey link to a . . ." where you ended up with only the very bored or highly motivated bothering.

Not saying the numbers couldn't have shifted, but I'd wait for better polls showing similar numbers.

This poll also took place well before the whole "Not actually a practicing physician" articles came out.

Stevens in my current House rep, and I will not be supporting her because of her working with AIPAC.

Info:

https://www.metrotimes.com/news/politics-elections/aipac-pairs-haley-stevens-with-republican-in-joint-senate-fundraiser-attacks-el-sayed/

U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens is facing backlash in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race after one of the country’s most powerful and controversial pro-Israel lobbying groups promoted her alongside Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine in a fundraising appeal that urged donors to support both candidates.

Earlier this week, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) launched the joint fundraising page, which urged donors to “Contribute to pro-Israel Candidates for U.S. Senate,” displaying Stevens and Collins together with preset donation amounts. The joint fundraiser was “paid for and authorized” by both candidates, according to AIPAC.

The fundraising campaign, which included an email blast, also attacked one of Stevens’s Democratic rivals, Abdul El-Sayed, the race’s most outspoken critic of Israel’s war in Gaza. He also was the only candidate endorsed by Track AIPAC, a grassroots group that documents and opposes the influence of AIPAC and pro-Israel political spending. The fundraiser accused El-Sayed and Graham Platner, the Democrat running against Collins in Maine, of “embracing extreme rhetoric,” pushing “false accusations of genocide,” and supporting cuts to aid for Israel.

“There is a coordinated, well-funded effort to punish anyone who stands with Israel and it’s gaining ground fast,” the email said. “It’s being driven by the far-left fringe of American politics, pushed by Bernie Sanders and amplified by voices like Hasan Piker, who are normalizing hostility toward Israel and turning it into a political weapon.”

Once again, primary voters massage their own egos at the expense of the party in the actual election.

Nobody gives a shit about his polling in the primary. I’m more interested in the h2h polling against the GOP candidates, which if I were betting, are probably suboptimal.

has the best chance to win. His support is about 80% of people under age 45 and will generate the most excitement to bring out bigger numbers of voters. And that’s the best way to win.

An AIPAC supporter is just as likely to depress turnout because of all of the other issues funding that train of thought causes. MI is a purple state. Born and raised there. Abdul could do well in metro Detroit which is where Dems win in MI.

The rest of the state is mostly underpopulated and a lost cause. This thought that he’s an Arab guy that is against Israeli policy is going to hurt him, but, a candidate who supports AIPAC, and wants to fund Israel while our own nation is being gutted is pretty ridiculous.
