(12,741 posts)If they want to visit China, they can do so of their own accord and at their own expense.
Our POTUS should not be schlepping these self-important, self-interested billionaires around with him at our expense.
Let them pay their own damn way. I'm so sick of politicians feeding the egos and profits of these schmucks.

(7,935 posts)THEY seem themselves AS America, itself. The rest of us don't count... and dictatorial world leaders are buying right into it because there's money to be made off these "self-made millionaires." Why expend your capital on the costs of war when you can clean up by playing on these men's insecurities and other mental deficiencies?!

(21,283 posts)I still question his use of it. He says it's for "depression" but to use it for that, you have to take a dose that almost knocks you out. "Sub-anesthetic" they say. I take it for depression in bed or laying in a recliner. That's why Matthew Perry never should've taken it and gotten into a hot tub. It's not a "walking around" drug, unless you want to fall flat on your face!
Now, if he were taking it recreationally, I suppose he could take less, but then you're less likely to get the hallucinogenic "fun" effects. It just doesn't add up.
Then again, I don't get why a multi billionaire is "depressed" enough to take Ketamine.

Got nothing against recreational drugs, but do it on your own time in private, and not in public when you are representing the country whether it be in an official or unofficial capacity.

(873 posts)and many others in this administration behave, one can only come to one conclusion: The U.S.; the country with the most powerful military in the world, has gone insane.

(53,519 posts)We were considered the "essential democracy" to the rest of the free world for decades, but for a country with all our military and economic power to go rogue must be terrifying. No one is safe with so much insanity and uncertainty running the country.

(53,519 posts)He is in a position to do almost anything. He could make a huge difference in the world and create a true legacy, but for people like him, nothing will ever be enough.
All that money and he will never be happy. Meanwhile, however, he will make huge numbers of people miserable.

(4,154 posts)Long story. During last 15 years of my 28 years in the Army, I specialized in Chinese affairs -- intell operations and analysis, Chinese language school, travel in and around China, ditto for assignments. (Started as an artillery officer but due to things that happened in Vietnam, could not stay in a combat arms, transferred to intell).
Chinese banquets feature several dishes -- one after another, 3-4 soups, meats, veggies, etc., etc.
Banquets require toasts using mao tai -- a fierce homebrew that can serve as paint thinner. Your place is set with a small glass. You start the banquet by toasting the host, the occasion, etc. Each toast is accompanied by the shout "gan bei" -- "dry glass" -- English equivalent is "bottoms up." It is impolite to not empty the glass -- which is immediately refilled.
As each new dish arrives, the toast is "yo lai shin tsai" -- "now comes a new dish" -- and then "gan bei."
After the initial toasts and after toasting the first 3-4 dishes . . . . only the strong survive.

(8,257 posts)On one of my first trips to China with a business colleague he said "sit next to the plant," a potted plant (ficus tree or similar) at one corner of the table. The idea being that maybe we could discreetly toss the mao tai into the pot without anyone noticing.
He was joking of course but it was practical advice.
