On Wednesday, the Bleachers frontman shared a journal entry on Instagram in which he assured fans that he and his bandmates remain committed to writing and recording music the old-fashioned way as they gear up for the release of their latest album, Everyone for Ten Minutes. As for other artists who are willing to embrace the use of AI in the studio and on the concert stage, he deemed them godless whores.
What we do has become an ancient ritual, Antonoff wrote. You dont have to write music, you dont have to record it and you dont have to bring out the band and play it. And yet for us, the idea of optimizing what we do is a complete miss of the entire point of what compels us in the first place.

Though Antonoff didnt single out other public figures by name in his post, he said those who are gassed up about the new ways you can fake making art could by all means drive right off that cliff.
Were genuinely happy to see you go. Generations coming will be engaging in the ancient ritual of writing, recording and performing as it comes to us from God, he wrote. So as we embark on this strange detour where the bad actors will willingly reveal themselves through slop, and the struggling great will be further spread thin to make an honest living doing what they were put on Earth to do, we (myself, the band and frankly everyone I know) remain more dedicated than ever to reveal what comes from within. Writing music, recording and performing it thats it.

I agree completely with what he said there about those who are "gassed up about the new ways you can fake making art" being "bad actors" who "willingly reveal themselves through slop." And I'm not surprised that he says everyone he knows feels the same way about the misuse of AI for art.

(77,237 posts)...I frequent there is a contingent Antanoff is talking about.
I get the sense that some are seeing this as some sort of preemptive strike, which I think is very naive.
At those forums, the "no thanks" to "it's fine" ratio is about 10 to 1 & I may be underestimating.

(63,048 posts)delusion in people using AI to generate fake visual art, too, and videos, and writing. They've convinced themselves they're truly creative and that the real creatives who avoid and despise AI are backward.
I hope there are more than 10 who are anti-AI to every one who's pro-AI. I'd question how much the AI fans know or care about music and musicians.

(77,237 posts)But, these are sites populated by musicians from beginners to hobbyists, to semi-pros like me, to studio cats.
So, these would be people who do care about the craft.
In the general music listening population, you're probably right about them not caring.

(63,048 posts)work the AI companies could steal?
That doesn't bother them?

(77,237 posts)But, they get a lot of flack on those sites. Some of the pushback is quite assertive too.
Despite that, they never seem convinced that they are setting their own hair on fire.
