We haven't won a war since 1945 (except for the War on Cuba ). We are loaded with debt......we have the largest nuclear arsenal in the world that we can only use....at our peril (so does North Korea)
. They scoff at us thinking that we have any say on a 23 mile stretch of waterway that is choking the unholy shit out of the world (which is willing to wait out the Magat King to die). The Ayatollahs own our ass. China owns everything else.
That's like saying that the Seattle Seahawks are the World Champions of Football which nobody else says!
Stand back America......
We are now the Greatest Paper Tiger that Dared to Meow!
THAT'S A PUSSY HE CAN'T GRAB!

(3,410 posts)There are some battles you can't win no matter what resources you pour into it - and you need civilian leaders who are smart enough to understand the difference. Moving fast and breaking things is not a military strategy. It may be a tactic - but it's not the long game which the imbeciles in our administration don't seem to understand. China does not consider us a paper tiger. It knows that we have both the capability to project power pretty much anywhere in the world - and lack the wisdom to refrain from doing so. The foregoing makes us very dangerous and unpredictable which doesn't foster trust and is bad for trade and the economy.

(9,418 posts)The U.S. Military can and does still project U.S. power on a global basis. Most of the 75 years since WW II it has been a force for stability and Democracy. It is a simple fact. We and the world have been much better off with American War Power than without. Not until Donnie dipshit came along was it used in this type of inappropriate manner. The men and women who put their lives on the line are instrumental to our defense and global stability.

That would depend you understanding what the goals in the war were.
In the Korean War it was to eject North Korea from South Korea, done.
In the Vietnamese War it was to keep North Vietnam from conquering South Vietnam. That never happened while the US was there it happened years after we pulled out.
I'm pretty sure Panama and Grenada didn't win their Wars.
The object of the first Gulf War was to eject Saddam from Kuwait, done.
The object of the second Gulf War was to eject Saddam, done.
The object of the Afghan war was to deny Al-Qaeda a base and eject the Taliban, that was done while we were there as soon as we pulled out they we're able to eject the Afghan government but that's more on them than us.

(180 posts)without a direct military confrontation with the Soviets.
We actually beat them when we deployed the Pershing II in Europe. The Soviets then realized they could not militarily compete against the US/NATO without bankrupting their economy. That started the downfall.
We can bitch all day long about the military not being used properly or efficiently but, like you said, it is not a "paper tiger". It is formidable.

(468 posts)The Cold War continues. The Taliban continues to rule. There were no WMDs in Iraq. North Vietnam took over Vietnam after the US ran,
That we won any of these wars is a figment of our imagination.
Theres a new world order, friends!
It is time to stop pounding our chests. Its time to start repairing America! Rebuilding it before we run ourselves into the ground with crumbling ballrooms and fake Arcs and blue reflecting pools.
So what did you say our goals were? Same as in Iran?
That seems to be turning out as we should have expected, would you agree?

(12,767 posts).....the UN Security Council denounced the attack and called on member nations to provide military assistance to repel the invasion.
UN forces under the unified command comprised 21 countries.

(2,053 posts)Doesn't that inherently admit we won the Gulf war? We also conclusively stopped the war in Kosovo.
And by your logic, there are still nazis so we didn't win WWII.
You're reaching on all of these because of a bias not on the objectives of the individual conflicts.
