Data Centers are Sports Arenas on steroids
So, a billionaire sports team owner wants a "new" stadium for their team. Happens all the time. The "old" billionaire dollar stadium doesn't have enough luxury boxes, or the latest "bells and whistles"...maybe it doesnt have a dome in a town with a lot of winter weather. Of course, all those luxury boxes and bells and whistles are to "enhance the experience of the teams hard-scrabble, salt of the earth fans". You know, those "average Joe's" that can plop down 5 figures to take the family to the game...plus parking.
Well, this billionaire will pony up a "little" bit of money, but public money and tax breaks are needed to make the project "doable".
For that public money, plus infrastructure, electricity and water, sewage and other utilities, the people are "promised" that this will be an economic revitalization. Why, just think of the jobs created. Just think of the stores, restaurants, bars, nightlife and entertainment centers that will come from this new arena/stadium.
But don't worry, if the team sucks, or the owner makes a bad investment, he'll just move the team to the next city he can bestow with such a great economic revitalization opportunity.
Seems to me, that just like sports arenas and stadiums, if Data Centers are such an economic, can't fail, profitable venture, then why aren't the billionaires providing the needed infrastructure and utilities required out of their own pocket?
