Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMrs Marble Falls had cancer surgery yesterday ...
... it was a very small tumor (9mm) and it was taken clean enough that the follow up will be one week of radiation in July.
I don't know if cancer will be eliminated or not, but there seems to be a lot better outcomes than there used to be.

(60,555 posts)My wife has had cancer twice, and the second time was a rare form that is always fatal. Here, oncologists call it the murderer. She was that one in ten thousand that actually survived it (now ten years ago).
A cheer to our durable spouses!

(74,100 posts)im ready to see a surgeon for my back issues. ive tried pain shots, tried meds, tried pt. nothing is working and pt is making it worse. plus its triggering my fibro. so im stuck.
i didnt want to do it cuz i learned the hard way that when u start fusing discs, u set off a chain reaction. and my spine is rotting, both discs and vertebrae. just hoping they have something better to offer than what was available 18 yrs ago when my neck exploded.
ive had a melanoma and a couple of squamous cell growths removed, so im staying ahead of that. but it does still bug that every blip on my skin cd b a killer in waiting.
on the plus side, timely scopes have saved me from colon cancer, and my mammos remain clean. so, dodged the big killers of my moms generation.
getting old is def not for the faint of heart.
u hang in there, my friend.

(17,864 posts)It is indeed good news that it was small and clean and as said earlier on this thread, she will breeze through the one week of radiation.
I lost a parent to cancer at a very early age, so I was schooled young about the impact. I have been quite happy and very grateful over the years to see advances in treatment and survival rates. It is indeed so important to catch it as early as possible.
My wish for the two of you is that you can take the next couple of weeks before the radiation and concentrate on yourselves and what makes you happy. Take some time and relish the fact that this is fixable, and remember that life is to be enjoyed!
All the very best.
marble falls
(72,845 posts)... I was four and I had a playmate up up the street and she had the nicest mother, who disappeared one day and a week later my grandmother told me her mother had died of cancer and she went to live with her grandparents.
After that I saw relatives who were sent home to die with cancer once it was determined there was no more medicine to help them. It was always a death sentence.
Not so now.
hamsterjill
(17,864 posts)The cancer that my mother died from would be easily treatable today. It saddens me so very much to see Trump cutting funding for research and development because that means that people will die.
It was uplifting this week to read the advancement stories about pancreatic cancer and lung cancer, etc. But it scares me that now the United States will be behind in implementing things that are available. One of the ways that I've learned to deal with my childhood trauma is by staying aware of medical advances and believing in hope. With Trump, that gets harder and harder to do.
Again, I wish your wife health, happiness and strength.
