WI-GOV: Democrats make their pitch for governor at annual state convention

Across two days at their annual state convention, Wisconsin Democrats looked toward the November elections, with an eye on a potential trifecta.

That means control of the state Senate, where they’d need to flip two seats, and the state Assembly, where they’d need to flip five. And it means retaining the governor’s seat as Gov. Tony Evers moves toward retirement in January.

Throughout the weekend, the name of the likely Republican nominee for governor, U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Minocqua, was frequently on people’s lips.

But the Democratic option isn’t yet clear. Seven Democrats are vying for their party’s nod, to be determined in an August primary with no resounding frontrunner having yet emerged.

On Sunday afternoon, in a windowless room at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in downtown Madison, those seven Democrats spoke in the order presented below. They made their case for how they’ll make Wisconsin more affordable and how they can beat Tiffany in November.
