Just got off the phone with aides to my State senator and state representative. Just wanted to tell them that it would be great if the state of Illinois would follow the example of Hawaii and Montana in prohibiting corporations from spending money on elections.
The aides to my state senator had never heard of citizens United , and when I tried to explain it , they acted like I was wearing a tinfoil hat.
The aide to my state representative had heard about citizens united but did not know what it meant. She was very receptive to learning ( very briefly) about it, and what the states of Hawaii and Montana , have done to work around it.
I used Randi Rhodes line dont believe me , check it out for yourself with my representatives aide. My point is that I had assumed that every Democratic representatives aides would know citizens United like the back of their hand. That they do not is concerning. Never assume.

(6,779 posts)I'm not questioning you. I believe what they told you, but good grief. What are the Democrats paying them for?
Maybe this is where we need to start our education. How can these people speak up for Democrats if they haven't a clue what's being talked about or is happening? And what's wrong with state rep that he/she hasn't educated their staff?
