and now you have proven something to me. That seat is currently held by a Republican. That's a real "win", as it's a flip and adds to the Dems chances of taking over the House.
Beating sitting Democratic members of Congress in safe districts may move the needle on a Progressive agenda, but it doesn't help the math.

(59 posts)The math I'm talking about is support for the Progressive interest in making America A More Perfect Nation.
If/When the Progressives get elected and satisfy the electorate, through their success, broader acceptance of them will grow. And that increases the likelihood that other numbers, such as number of Dems in the House will be increased
Democracy seems to move in fits of exuberance that overcome periods of stodginess. Legislative failure to satisfy results in set-backs
Currently, the popular mood seems to be overcoming 50 years of pro-corporate bias. IMO a politician doesn't need to be a Democratic Socialist to grab onto and be swept along by that sentiment. But trying to hold pro-corporatist and populist posiions in this time will rip your arms off.

(3,240 posts)I want to see a Progressive candidate win a seat like the 11th. Flip me a purple district.
The last time I saw a Progressive aligned politician win a purple state it was John Fetterman. How'd that work out?

(59 posts)These were little wins, not short-falls, the candidate(s) actually won contests that were available. The failings of Fetterman really shouldn't seen as overwhelmingly true stereotype of progressives.
OF COURSE we need more people friendly congress-critters to take Dems where they want to be, but climbing mountains of cultural resistance is a long endeavor of slogging on up-slope, which ends in the joy at the topping out.
Currently, there are progressives across the country engaged in contests so steep they might be called cliff climbs, and even when not 'winning', these climbers are setting paths of pitons that will make it easier and more successful for those who follow.

(3,240 posts)but Trump needs to be stopped this November or there may be no game at all, long or short.
and the only way to stop Trump is with 218 Dem. congress members and 51 Dem Senators. that's the math that I'm talking about.

(59 posts)whether you're talking snow, rock slides or mudslides.
Sentiment grows, it unbalances the status quo, which leads to overwhelming force of change
A brick isn't a wall, but a brick placed so that it adds to a growing wall is something else entirely.
My point is these were events on the right course for progressives. They DID NOT FINISH the needed work but you know, you build walls brick by brick, stone by stone, board by board.

(21,227 posts)It's a tough, uphill climb.
We had Max Rose from 2018 to 2020, but sloganeers trash talked him for refusing to adopt the "Defund the Police" mantra and Republicans trash talked him by tying him to "Defund the Police" sloganeers.
My guess is that Republicans will go negative by tying DeCillis to the "Abolish Prisons" stance of one of last night's winners and Malliotakis will remain in the seat.
