4. Aftershocks.

After the Northridge quake we felt them for a few days.

https://earthquaketoday.net/venezuela versus https://earthquaketoday.org/venezuela -- different counts.

Depends what you call an earthquake and what's an aftershock.

On the earthquaketoday site notice how the quakes line up with the ridge where the fault is. A nice " target="_blank">illustration's available online.

They've compiled a list.

The window is closing to find survivors.

The US has sent 2 of its 28 urban rescue teams. The other 26 is needed at home I guess, maybe to rescue dying ducks from the Reflecting Pool.

Trump has consented to sacrifice about 2 hours of bombing Iranians for humanitarian aid to a country where a quarter of the population is already dependent on it thanks to US sanctions and interference and now made poorer by the theft of its oil.

Virginia, California and .2 from south florida.

Could be more by now.

I am on one of the South Florida teams and I have written extensively here about WTC, Karina Haiti surfside etc.

They are out there now without me this time so keep them in your thoughts

Only 2 had been reported earlier today, not including the south Florida teams. The more the better!!

The first 2 teams had a combined personnel of 150. Is that about the same for the Florida teams?

I saw many multi-story buildings collapsed, some pancaked. Are the teams bringing heavy machinery? What can be done without enough machinery?

Much admiration to you and your teams for the work that you do!

We usually travel with about 75-80 so that’s about right. It’s about 3/4 elite firefighters and paramedics and then some specialists like K9, doctors and engineers ( engineering is my thing).

We do travel with a lot of equipment but our traveling cache is mostly for breaking cutting shoring and jacking. Bigger stuff like cranes and lifts have to be provided locally. I’ve never seen a place that wasn’t able to get them locally but all bets are off when there is widespread destruction.

It depends a lot on the type of structure and collapse. Sometimes we can get into structures through voids without big equipment. But if they are tightly pancaked there isn’t really another way. Usually it is an evolution of working voids that ends up moving to more of a heavy demolition. But honestly that evolution often takes place after the survivability window because it is incredibly time consuming to do it carefully enough to prevent harming survivors in the collapse. The more targeted void work has a higher chance of success because it is faster and more surgical. Our team saved seven in Haiti entirely working voids. Of course there is more risk in that. Especially with aftershocks. But that is what makes them heroes.

Absolutely. Include yourself in that!

It takes a special kind of person to go into a void knowong it could collapse any moment. I don't think I could do it.

Holding all people there in my thoughts

Despite double digit deployments going back 30 years I have never been that comfortable thinking of myself that way. I have always sort of thought of myself like the punter or placekicker that has a certain skill that lets him hang out with the real jocks. I guess it is just my imposter syndrome talking.

I am sort of semi-retired from it now so I have spent more time reflecting on it in recent years and don’t try to run away from it as much.

But thanks for the thoughts.

We can be our own worst enemies sometimes, eh? Not feeling like we are as good or the "real thing".

Yes, I know about imposter syndrome, it's a real bad internal dialogue to kick and it should be kicked in the butt. Talking about it is a major step in that direction.

You are amazing just as you are.

I have been donating to democrats across the country so that we can retake the house and senate. I only have so much to give. If our institutions that have been gutted and eliminated by DOGE were there, perhaps our Country could help.
