(611 posts)elections, and Platner speaks well and makes good points. Should he drop out? Should Al Franken have dropped out? I'm not even going to get into it. I believe we must be moral and ethical and I believe we must win. Susan Collins has got to go. May the very best, highest common good choices be made, for the sake of everybody.

Perhaps he can only deny it.

(2,316 posts)Why is it so hard to believe a man who has blamed women for rape, who admits he mistreated multiple women he was in relationships with, and was sexting outside his marriage right after getting married and was regularly drinking heavily could have sexually assaulted a woman, especially when that woman has multiple outcry witnesses?
Being a Democrat isn't some sort of guarantee of actually respecting women. We still live in a patriarchy.

(916 posts)The Democratic Party needs to take control of the house and senate. They must for the sake of our Democracy. Yes things are that bad and I am willing to give Platner the benefit of the doubt. Why is this coming out now and not 6 months or a year ago. Sorry very suspect to me. We are watching our democracy disappear before our eyes. 2028 will be too late.
Enough already with attacking our own. We as a party can not survive attacks from within and from the other side.

(1,479 posts)statement of having been sexually assaulted is not one a woman agrees to while hope exists that your attacker might not be close to a political victory.
Me, I'm suspicious of autopilot defenders.

Despite winning the Democratic primary in Maine last month, Senate candidate Graham Platner could be off the ballot in November after a Politico story published on Monday detailed a woman accusing him of sexual assault.
July 13 is the deadline for Platner to withdraw from the race and have a replacement, according to the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices.
The deadline for the Maine Democratic Party to replace their nominee on the ballot is July 27, in accordance with a state law that says a party has until 5 p.m. EDT on the fourth Monday in July of an election year to do so.
The name of a candidate for an office on the general election ballot who withdraws for any reason 70 days or more before the general election must be removed from the ballot, Maine law states.

If he stays the nominee, he'll get my vote no matter what.
