Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has said the Trump administration will buy more buildings in Chicago for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Noem said more buildings were purchased to operate out of. Were purchasing more buildings in Chicago to operate out of, Noem said to President Trump during the meeting. Were going to not back off. In fact, were doubling down and were going to be in more parts of Chicago in response to the people there.
I was there a few days ago and looked at some facilities that we can deploy more law enforcement out of, Noem said. Because what theyre trying to do with these riots and violence is distract us and keep us from going after those murderers and rapists that are out on the streets.
While Noem did not specify which buildings will be bought by the administration, she told ICE officials and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents at the immigration processing facility in Broadview, Ill., on Friday, Were going to try to buy that building today, while pointing at a building nearby, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Hill has reached out to DHS for comment.

This goes along with another thread saying they can go after anyone around a federal building. If they buy enough buildings, they can arrest people in a pretty wide area.

Money is the root of all evil. And until we can find a way to rein in people's greed I fear we'll always be at the mercy of Evil.

The General Services Administration is looking to reinstate hundreds of laid-off employees who managed its governmentwide real estate portfolio. GSAs Public Buildings Service is giving laid-off employees the option to return to their jobs, after sending them reduction-in-force notices earlier this year.
This serves as an update to your previously issued notice of reduction in force. Your specific notice of Reduction in Force (RIF) has been rescinded, effective immediately, acting PBS Commissioner Andrew Heller wrote in a notice obtained by Federal News Network.
GSA is giving PBS employees until the end of the day on Friday, Sept. 26, to accept or decline reinstatement. If employees accept the offer, they must report to their previous posts by Oct. 6.
A GSA employee told Federal News Network that PBS is planning to reinstate nearly 400 employees who received RIF notices. Your decision of whether to accept or decline a return to duty is completely voluntary, Heller wrote in the notice.

The complete cluelessnes by this administration's lackeys about how the government has evolved into what it has, is truly breathtaking, and having handed over "personnel" functions to the "illegal alien Muskrat" to chainsaw it into pieces, has been a tragic exclamation point for their idiocy.

(6,682 posts)20 billion for Venz, but no money to feed the children of our own country. Money to buy buildings to house and train government terrorists, but no money to rein in the gun violence. Money to use the National Guard of one state to invade another state for no reason at all except paranoid fever dreams and inducing terror in the state's population.
Then I agree with those states who are withholding federal taxes from the federal government. I don't want MY taxes going to pay for any piece of what's being done in my name. I want neither my name nor my money associated with anything this government is doing. I support the withdrawal and withholding of any and all federal monies from the federal government... just like the federal government is withholding and withdrawing money already allocated for the people for their mutual welfare.

(42,277 posts)-- the John C. Kluczynski Federal Building, the Everett McKinley Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, and the William O. Lipinski Federal Building. These buildings are part of the larger Chicago Federal Center and house various government agencies and courts. She can park her goons in one of those buildings instead of wasting taxpayer dollars to get some new building ( and probably have it named after her).

(161,594 posts)I know my agency had a District and Regional office there and the District office had to move at some point in the past due to the per square foot cost.
It sounds like they are trying to "hide" their operations by refusing to use existing GSA space in what would normally be a "public" (government-owned or standalone government-leased) building. I would not be surprised if they try to buy some warehouse to convert into office space and detention facilities, so they can barricade themselves in it.

(2,577 posts)Of course. And what good Chicagoan would sell to ICE, anyway? Even more, if they did buy a building, then there are all sorts of codes and inspections that must be met before they even move in. And that could take years to get approval..

(178,399 posts)Downtown buildings are expensive, and most are multi-tenant. I'm not sure that ICE would want their neighbors down the hall privy in even the smallest way to their.
Smaller buildings in neighborhoods and suburbs offer more privacy, are more suited to single users, and are lots cheaper than downtown commercial real estate. The smaller buildings exist everywhere, many are currently vacant, and they tend to be easier to secure. They don't need Class A space to store their weapons; a drive-in door to garage space would be useful to house their vehicles.
I worked in commercial real estate for 20 years, and this scenario makes sense to me.
