I have a friend who is a retired worker from movie-land, we just talked about this, he's not aware of anything at the moment. He seems to have a lot of inside info at times.

(9,707 posts)Tragic. Sounds like they were murdered by someone else, not a murder-suicide given that knives were involved, not guns.

(5,361 posts)I pray they find who did this. Quickly. I hope it was not politically motivated, but I would not be surprised in the least. I am already sad, and now I am even more sad. How horrible.

Of this is the true cause of their death it just makes it all the more tragic for their family and loved ones.

(5,361 posts)I hope this is not true.

(20,049 posts)Which doesn't mean I doubt it out of hand. But, I so desperately hope it's not correct for their family's sake.

(10,595 posts)but I really hope they were not murdered by their own son.
What a tragedy.

(58,283 posts)It makes me not want to be around him, but I am all he's got. Today, I brought him $200 worth of groceries. I feared what kind of brother I would see when he opened the door. Fortunately it was the one I remembered as a kid...kind, thankful, and wrecked with anxiety. But alcohol or drugs can turn that anxiety very quickly into something very dark.
If it can happen to the Reiners, it can happen to anyone. They were such good people.
radical noodle
(10,595 posts)Apparently the family did all they knew how to do to help Nick, but sometimes no matter what you do it isn't right or enough. Take care of your brother as best you can but take care of yourself too.

(2,631 posts)both of them on numerous occasions and we know them both to have been very kind, intelligent, actively progressive and genuinely good people. True lights in this world. They financed the reversal of prop 8 in California and supported marriage equality amongst other righteous liberal struggles.
I really, really hope this was random and not politically connected.
The Reiners will be deeply missed.

(2,501 posts)Apparently the son in question is a long time drug addict who often lived on the streets. I would bet that he had some kind of serious mental illness as well. Pure speculation, but his parents probably went through hell trying to help their son. I cant imagine anything more awful than being assaulted by your own child.
