Trump says building a 'New York Stock Exchange' in Dallas is bad thing for New York

Jan 18 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that building a "New York Stock Exchange" in Dallas is an "unbelievably" bad thing for New York.

"I can't believe they would let this happen. A big test for the new Mayor!" he said in a post on Truth Social.

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE.N), the owner of NYSE, had said it would add Texas as its venue for a secondary listing last year.

NYSE Texas, which officially opened for business earlier in 2025, saw 10 companies, including oilfield service company Halliburton (HAL.N), and Truth Social-parent Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT.O), dual list on the Dallas-based exchange in the first three months.

Until it closed in 2025?

It's not like they are closing the New York one. They are just increasing their secondary exchanges.

Most of them either shut down or merged into nasdaq or nyse.

I'm not sure what the benefit of a regional exchange is these days given how so much is electronic, but some still operate.

There is a small tax like a penny a share (not sure the exact amount) that has only been collected two years from 1900 to now. And those two years were refunded afterwards. So I'm guessing this extra exchange is being set up as a backup location for the servers and as a hedge against New York State getting any ideas about taxing the exchange it self.
