Washington Post incredulous over RFK Jr.'s Jell-O crackdown: 'A warning' to America

Source: Raw Story

May 10, 2026 10:53PM ET

The Washington Post's editorial board is warning Americans that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s push to dictate what hospitals can serve patients is a sign of dangers to come. In a blistering editorial published Sunday, the board accused Kennedy of "using the coercive power of government to substitute his judgment" for that of doctors and patients, and called the crackdown "a warning to anyone who supports a full government takeover of health care."

Kennedy's team is threatening to cut off federal funding for hospitals that serve items with too much added sugar, including Jell-O, fruit juice, Cheerios, and even Ensure protein shakes, the board wrote. The HHS guidance, issued this spring, urges hospitals to revise inpatient meal plans to align with new federal dietary guidelines.

"The leader of the 'Make America Healthy Again' movement thinks he knows better than medical providers and patients what’s best for them, and he’s using the coercive power of government to substitute his judgment for theirs," the board railed.

Kennedy himself has called the rules "essentially a federal mandate," even as the board noted the order is "legally dubious.". Kennedy confidant Calley Means has gone further, urging the public to rat out non-compliant hospitals through a federal complaint system intended for serious medical issues. Some physicians have likened it to a "snitch line" for serving soda.

Like this is the first instance for this administration?

Deregulation is also coercive to the public in many instances. It's rewarding fat pockets.

protein shakes are the only thing that kept my dad alive in his final weeks as he could only eat through a feeding tube.

Yeah, sure, we should all eat less sugar, but these freaks need to get the fuck out of our doctors' offices (not to mention bedrooms and bathrooms).

Just look at their ridiculous inverted food pyramid to see how they've thrown science out the window. Maybe we should all sample some roadkill and heroin (snorted off a toilet).

These people are monsters.

Never thought I’d see a blurb by Rawstory about the WP and think ‘’Who cares what the WP says anyway? Even rawstory has more credibility than they do at this point.”

who sounds like he smokes 12 packs of cigarettes daily? He looks like he has alligator skin from too much sun exposure and won't admit his leader has some form of dementia.

What makes him a health expert? Nothing.

Well done Robber Barons, Wall Street and for-profit healthcare and big pharma!

Heck who fucking cares that the number one reason for bankruptcy here in this PROFITS OVER PEOPLE capitalist utopia that is 'Murika? Certainly not the right-wing shills on WaPo's editorial board.

Nope! 'Murika ain't nebber going to go SOSH-A-LIST!!!
