At a time when viewers are fleeing traditional television shows, the CBS Sunday newsmagazine 60 Minutes remains in a class of its own. The 12 April episode, which featured Pope Leo and a story on great white sharks, drew an astounding 10.1 million total viewers. The show is trending as the most-watched news program for the current broadcast season. So, as the saying goes, if it aint broke, why fix it?
Thats what some CBS News employees and veterans are wondering, amid persistent rumors that the shows 59th season will look very different than the 58th, which ends on 17 May. The next season of the USs most prestigious news show will be the first fully under the purview of Bari Weiss, the controversial heterodox opinion writer installed as editor-in-chief after Skydance Media officially completed its acquisition of CBSs parent, Paramount Global, in August 2025.
One longtime network insider said to expect massive changes after the season ends, though the network is said to have no plans to blow up the format or to change the shows award-winning mission. Layoffs are widely expected, however. People [at 60 Minutes] are afraid and theyre waiting for something monumental to happen here, said another network insider.
A CBS News staffer, who was not authorized to comment, expressed concern that Weiss would make changes that would damage the show, just like she has done with everything else at CBS News.. A third network insider cautioned, however: They dont want to turn it upside down.. Still, the shows cast will undoubtedly look different.

(22,684 posts)There's already a Reich Wing outlet, Fux News. I don't see the imbeciles switching to CBS. I think the Jews for Shitler cofounder's mission is destruction and little else.

Is 60 Minutes really a news program? Part of its appeal seems to be that it doesnt rock the boat.

(8,163 posts)Viewership will drop, and the CBS heads will wonder where they went wrong.
Toeing the current political climate limitations and straight-out propaganda has a limited audience.

(1,131 posts)of CBS News and its satellite programs that present vetted, factual, reliably true recitations of events that have happened or are happening. Of course there will be changes. And not good ones. You don't carry out a mandate to destroy something by making it better.

(11,507 posts)at that other place she used to run. Sorry forgot the name). I mean who else, other than Trump, places a bust of themselves in the lobby of their workplace? She left the NY times because she blah blah blah {read: thought she was smarter). She took the job at CBS having NO experience in running a news department on television, vowing to turn things around by doing things differently (immediate fail), conducted important interviews by herself instead of turning that over to experienced journalists because she could do it better, interfered with the stories on the above mentioned 60 Minutes because SHE felt the content was slanted and now wants to radically change the only CBS News show that she hasn't yet tanked the ratings.
Yes Trump and Ellison wanted to change the tone at CBS to be more Trump friendly but she is not in disagreement with that and her ego is too large to take a dive for them. She honestly thinks she is smart enough to be more sympathetic to Trump while still making CBS News wildly successful by revamping it into her idea of covering news. In spite of the disaster she has created so far, she does possess the kind of hubris that tells her that she is right and will continue with her plans to shake up the News Division in her image.
She did not take this job to tank CBS. Others may have wanted her to do that but her ego would not take that humiliation. She took the opportunity to show everyone how much smarter she is, how she will go for Fox Lite while improving CBS ratings with her brilliance. She has failed, swiftly and spectacularly, and will continue to do so. She is one of those people who doesn't know what she doesn't know because she thinks she knows better than anyone.
