DC's record-breaking fireworks delayed as Trump turns July 4 celebration into another MAGA rally

Source: The Independent

Tuesday 30 June 2026 00:11 EDT

A record-breaking firework show in Washington, D.C., will be delayed as President Donald Trump turns the July 4 celebration into a campaign-like rally.

More than 850,000 pyrotechnic effects will be launched over the National Mall that night, according to Freedom 250, the White House-backed, public-private group tasked with organizing celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence. Not only will it be the biggest July 4 fireworks show in D.C., but the longest. It will last about 40 minutes, about twice as long as usual, according to event organizers.

While the show is bound to be awe-inspiring for those attending the event, D.C. residents with crying babies and scared pets may see it more as headache-inducing — the event is scheduled to start nearly two hours later than usual, thanks to what the president called the “most spectacular” Trump rally.

“On July 4th, at The Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, in beautiful and safe Washington D.C., we are going to host the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all, a ‘TRIBUTE TO AMERICA,’” the president wrote on Truth Social earlier this month.

doesn't he.
If it's a Trump rally then let Trump pay for the fireworks, security, etc. Taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook for some cults' display of adoration for their "dear leader."

It's a celebration of America, asshole, not YOU!

Arguably, D.C. is less beautiful after all of Trump's "beautification" projects. And the National Guard deployment to D.C., costing taxpayers $185 million, had no effect on violent crime, so it's no safer.

To be over 100 and feel like 110 or close to it. He’s doing it so people won’t walk out like the opening of the “festival”. I suspect many fewer families will go at all since it will start so late. There’s no shade in the middle of the mall. How miserable it will be.

Reminds me of the fake fairs, trade shows, exhibitions, or consumer expos. Many corporations try to throw these but a lot of them fall flat and attract practically no one...but they still charge an entry fee. They have a feel of emptiness and glossy boredom.

I once paid to see a home expo where new products for new home builds were showing. It was a waste of money. No one was there and the products were not all that interesting.

I actually think it was designed to swindle the vendors and not to attract customers. Turns out if we had waited a couple of hours, we could have got in for free....
Not that anyone showed up after it was free.

I think this crappy looking fair, even with fireworks at 11pm, is designed to swindle the American people.

With his political rally shit, why repeat it? Is there somewhere else people can go to gather and view the fireworks?

I just wonder what his little copy girl is telling him about the fair? That it's shoulder to shoulder?

Safe? I thought there were a few attempted assassinations in DC, guess they don't bother him unless he's crying for his ballroom.

I doubt many people will hang around for TWO HOURS listening to his never ending, repetitive bullshit.

So SICK of this asshole.

for spectators?

I once was at an extra long fireworks display. The shock to the nervous system of lights constantly exploding around me after awhile far outweighed any beauty. Finally we left early, but it wasn't nearly early enough for me.

I gained a new appreciation for a 15-20 minute fireworks show.
