Shannon Miranda Admits Sending Fake Adoption Texts About Dogs He Shot Dead, Affidavit Says
Source: Lost Coast Outpost
In interviews with law enforcement, Shannon Miranda admitted to burying numerous dogs at a time in mass graves at his no-kill animal sanctuary in Fortuna, according to an affidavit from Humboldt County Sheriffs Sergeant Shane Steel.
Miranda, the 55-year-old man at the center of a multi-agency investigation into allegations of animal cruelty, theft and fraud, changed his story numerous times over the course of two interviews conducted in late April and early May, according to Steel. But eventually, Steel says, Miranda made several confessions. Among them: He admitted sending multiple fake adoption texts in which he claimed to have found new homes for dogs that, in reality, hed already shot dead with his .22 caliber rifle.
Miranda said he sent these bogus texts to protect feelings and [insisted] that each of the dogs he euthanized were for legitimate reasons, such as behavioral or medical issues, Steel writes in his sworn statement.
This affidavit, which outlines an array of previously undisclosed evidence in the case, led Humboldt County Superior Court Judge Steven Steward to issue a second search warrant for Mirandas Rescue, located at 1603 Sandy Prairie Road in Fortuna. In executing that warrant across three days last week, investigators and support personnel unearthed the remains of at least 138 dogs along with hundreds more bones and six loose microchips.

(30,752 posts)138 dogs..... One hundred thirty eight dogs he murdered. I seriously doubt there were any medical or behavioral problems. This was a money-making racket in the cruelest way possible--cruel to the dogs, cruel to people who thought their dogs would go to a good home.
No mercy for this complete asshole.

(48,084 posts)My understanding 138 are just the dogs from the most recent burial and the investigators don't think there is a need to dig for older ones.

(48,084 posts)He took in over 600 for the last year, I believe, getting paid per dog in surrender fees. Because it's a private sanctuary, doesn't appear there is much regulation or inspections going on.

(22,249 posts)There were pictures being shown of the dogs waiting to be adopted. It is heartbreaking! A local man is offering to cover the adoption fees for any of the dogs that are still there.
I'm sure the dogs can smell X1000+ the gut wrenching smell of death from all of the dead animals buried around them. They all appear to be scared!
I'd adopt one myself but I have three feral cats as it is and given my declining health, I'm not in a position to adopt a dog. If I could, I would!
I have nothing more to add right now except I am sure that a hot hell awaits all involved in this horrific atrocity!

(22,249 posts)It is so damn sad.
Appparently, some people that for whatever reason, surrendered a dog to Miranda's Rescue are getting called to let them know they have found the microchip for their dog.
This is such a sickening situation! In the meantime, Shannon Miranda roams free!

(22,249 posts)He isn't making any friends around here, that is for sure!
Even the gym he was going to dumped him. He showed up at another one and from what I heard, he wasn't being greeted with roses!
They need to get this MOFO now before he leaves the country!
I find it unbelievable that they allow him to travel around (I heard he is in Nevada now with his husband, Jim Oxborrow who has quite the film history
).
