The Trump administration is preparing to tighten the process many U.S. employers use to sponsor foreign workers for permanent residency, signaling another potential shift in employment-based immigration policy.
The Department of Labor's (DOL) latest regulatory agenda says the agency plans to overhaul the Program Electronic Review Management (PERM) systemthe labor certification process employers typically must complete before sponsoring a worker for an employment-based green card.
The planned changes could affect thousands of employers and foreign professionals seeking permanent residency each year. Because PERM is the foundation of many employment-based green card applications, stricter recruitment rules or more demanding labor-market testing could lengthen already significant processing delays, increase compliance costs for employers and make it more difficult for workers to secure long-term sponsorship.
The proposal also fits into the Trump administration's broader effort to reshape legal immigration programs alongside its crackdown on unauthorized immigration. Newsweek has contacted the DOL for comment via email outside office hours on Monday morning.

(2,888 posts)Someone should ask Trump about how many work visas he has for workers at his countless Resort/Golf Courses in the U.S.
I remember when he took office in 2017, the FBI raided just one of his Resort/golf courses, (Bedminster?) and found boxes and boxes of Social Security Cards, and a small printing press used to imprint employees names.........Funny thing, we never heard anything more about it, much less more FBI raids on every other Trump owned business or and of his Resort/Golf Courses.....

(28,083 posts)I was at the NYS Dept Labor (my 11 months on the NE corner office 73rd flr of South Tower 2) doing labor certification. Incredible views!
Although my section was the most boring ! It was housekeepers, au pairs, and one other related occupation.
More interesting were manufacturing, science & engineering, entertainment and 1, or 2 orhers?
I think someone mentioned Barishnikof (ballet). And years later I wondered bc they first played here in the US in Dec '80 whether U2's application came through entertainment.
