Democrats add 1 more vote in Congress after Virginia special election
(Politico) Democratic Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw defeated Republican Stewart Whitson easily on Tuesday, with The Associated Press calling the race at 7:36 p.m. Eastern time.
The race for the seat in Virginias 11th Congressional District was widely expected to be won by Walkinshaw, who will replace his former boss. The late Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly, who had represented the district for over 15 years, died in May.

(5,025 posts)Walkinshaw gained ground over Republican performance of 2024. He scored 8 percentage points higher than Connolly did in 2024. Thats good news for Dems- an 8 point gain.

(3,111 posts)Arizona Representative Rueben Gallego moved into the Senate, leaving his House seat open. His wife is running for the empty seat and is favored to take the upcoming special election on Sep 23, giving Democrats another House member.
