Why Are Americans Expected to Fight Saudi Arabia's Wars?
Julie Roginsky
There is a familiar narrative forming around the latest military escalation against Iran, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu being blamed for pulling the United States into yet another Middle Eastern war. But that explanation tells only a fraction of the story.
The other half sits in Riyadh, where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has spent years urging the United States to confront Iran, even as Saudi Arabia itself has largely avoided committing its own forces, while publicly bleating about diplomacy.
The uncomfortable question Americans should be asking is this: how long are we expected to fight Saudi Arabias wars?
Bin Salman privately pressed Donald Trump to launch strikes on Iran in the weeks leading up to the current conflict. He made multiple phone calls to Trump urging military action, warning that Iran would grow stronger and more dangerous if the United States did not strike first.
