The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe house phone rang...
wife answered it downstairs.
She came up a few moments later and said that we've been invited to a Valentine's Dance by another couple.
I looked at her, quizzically.
Me: Wut?
Her: Stop it. It's what I just said...
Me: A dance?
Her: (rolls eyes) Yes
Me: Where?
Her: At so and so Hall.
Me: You mean, they'll be...people there?
Her: Yes
Me: And I'll have to wear...clothes?
Her: You can wear the chick magnet. (the "chick magnet" is a beautiful custom tailored suit that I've not worn in awhile. It's probably turned into a pile of thread by now in the closet. My wife sarcastically calls the suit the "chick magnet" ).
Me: Fuck no, we're not going.
Her: Think about it. It'll be fun.
We'll almost certainly end up going.
Because I don't have a say in this.

(39,817 posts)I went to a Christmas party - dinner and dancing - with Mr. Diamond eons ago back when we were still engaged, it was for the teachers at his school. They used to have those every Christmas. I really enjoyed it. I have said to him before, why dont we go dancing again sometime? Then we both looked at each other and said, in unison, WHERE?
Go - and have a good time. Wear your chick magnet and make Mrs. Lucky the envy of the crowd. You wont regret it!

(21,905 posts)I've had plenty of fun in my life.
I'm too old to have anymore fun.
'Having fun" means "leaving the house".
I'm too old for that.

(39,817 posts)Dont be like that! Hey sometimes I have to push myself to go out or go to an event, too, when Id much rather stay home, but it turns out 99% of the time I had a lot of fun when I really didnt want to go. I know, its tough, especially when you live in the northeast when its freezing cold and dark all winter.
at least think about it
..
Chick magnet, huh

(21,905 posts)I'm making phone calls right now to find her a date for the dance.
So the pics will be of her and her new boyfriend.
He won't have a suit as nice as the chick magnet though.

(12,574 posts)Cracking me up. Thank you, I so need a touch of laughter. Good luck avoiding the dance and dress up. Or cut loose and dance like Noem to ICE ICE, like nobody is watching. (Dont sway like Miller or so the trump double handy)

(21,905 posts)There's a scene in Goodfellas where Tommy (Joe Pesci) was supposedly going to a ceremony where he would become a made man.
Instead, they killed him.
Jimmy (Robert DeNiro) goes into a phone booth to make a phone call where he was informed of this.
DeNiro gets distraught as the man on the other end of the call says "There was nothing we could do".
That's how it is in this situation.
"There was nothing I could do".

(21,905 posts)I can say either yes or no.
Whatever I say...it doesn't matter.
Because I never get my way. No matter what I say.
Sometimes i feel like a piece of meat, or an animal.
A scared, voiceless animal.

(21,905 posts)I'll put on the chick magnet, go there, put a bunch of food into paper bag, run back out to the car, drive home and eat the food in front of the TV in my underwear after taking off the chick magnet, and leave her there with her new boyfriend!
Thanks for the good idea, Jose! I knew someone would have the answer!

People can have social gatherings when the virus season calms down.
Stay home and watch a movie in your chick magnet sleep loungers!!

(21,905 posts)It's really bad around here, and probably where you are too.
I've been to this hall for weddings...they have events that draw a lot of people.
She was going to wait and see if the flu calms down here a bit, but it sounds like the tickets have to be purchased pretty soon...
We haven't even been going out to eat.
My neighbor works in the local hospital, and she's saying it's loaded up with flu cases there.
And unfortunately, I don't have a chick magnet N95 mask!

(11,564 posts)SO fell ill last night with a temperature. He never gets sick.
I checked him this morning and he didn't have a temp when I left for work or when I came home. And so I don't think it's the flu but some sort of the creeping cruds. I got him a massive container of blueberries on my way home which is high for immune system building for colds and flu.
I would bring up the seasonal illness to your wife. I suggest order for take-out and enjoy the evening at home for that evening. There's too much riding on the line for you, Lucky.
You do what you want though. I just worry, that's all AND I'm full of reason's not to go out.
No chick magnet N95 mask? Ohhh nooooooooo! lol

(21,905 posts)I hope your SO feels better soon.
Don't you get sick too!
I got the flu in 2018, ended up in the ER...it was miserable.
Seriously...best wishes to your SO, and you try to stay healthy please.
