Alan tested positive yesterday. He is immune-compromised due to receiving biologic infusions for advanced RA (rheumatoid arthritis). My health insurance doesn't cover Alan; I am recovering from COVID myself as I still work as an RN and was infected at work. The pharmacy has filled his Paxlovid Rx but it costs $1,600 which we do not have. He needs to start on the med ASAP, 4 days at the latest. We would appreciate any help you can give us.

(60,144 posts)Paxlovid, if they have certain health problems. The screening itself is $60, whether or not you qualify, but I'd guess your husband's other health problems would qualify him, and he's probably had recent.blood work, which is also required. The pharmacist will prescribe.

I hadn't heard of this program before, ran across it when I was googling the cost of that drug, to see if anyone offered it much cheaper. I tried calling a local CVS pharmacy to ask more questions about it, but couldn't reach a pharmacist. I'd recommend that you talk to a CVS pharmacist before filling out the questionaire, especially with that fee, but between what you said about your husband and what I read, it seems at least possible he'd qualify for free Paxlovid.
You might still need the prescription you have now, so don't cancel that.
EDITING because I hadn't noticed that it's the consultation with one of their pharmacists that the $60 fee is for, after their digital screener determines if you're eligible. Since they need medical records for the blood work, I'd guess that's what the consultation is about. It's done by phone.
