I've learned that this was Tupac Shakur's favorite song.

Which surprises me in some ways, and doesn't surprise me at all in other ways.

It's been one of my favorites for years.

It helps me understand a few things about...I don't know...beauty...struggles...and the way things really are in life.

This song, ironically, gives me some clarity when I'm feeling sad.

I guess another recent thread about van Gogh made me peek down a shallow rabbit hole about him, and that reminded me of this song.

That song was released 1971 , Tupac was born in 1971
I was a high school junior in 1971 , but the song everyone heard was American Pie , unless you bought the album and heard Vincent.
I wonder if Tupac heard his mom playing the album in his infancy , early childhood and had it impressed in his psyche from his beginnings. That and the correlation of the misunderstood and unappreciated artists he and Van Gogh both were .

I bought the album soon after release , still have it today

6. My mother loved Julio Iglesias and I bought her one of his CDs

that had him singing that song and she cried when she heard it, especially the line "this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you."

It's been one of my favorites, just as can Gogh has always been one of my favorite artists. He was one of the first I chose to emulate. I would sit for hours drawing the faces in The Potato Eaters trying to get the depth and emotion he got. I did do my share of Sunflower paintings to decorate my walls too. I remember my daughter buying me a mug with Starry Night on it because she knew I loved the painting.
