All the jokes about Mid west and Wi folks and "Ope" is that a misspelling?

In Wisconsin I am not sure I've ever heard an "Ope", but I do hear "Oops" on a regular basis

Especially among people too nice to say "oh s**t" or "oh f**k" when things go wrong.

Is this one of those new verbal short cuts for people who like one syllable words, or something your boss is going to want to hear.

8. I've heard it a lot here in Iowa and have even used it myself....

But, I don't think "ope" is how it's spelled. It's kind of like a shortened form of "oops," just "op."
