Related: About this forumI've been asked to post my bird series paintings, so here they are.
These have already been posted one at a time, over a series of many months when completed, but here's the lot all together, reduced in size for bandwidth conservation. Not sure if I want to keep doing birds or maybe do an arthropod series?
Goldfinch

Nuthatch

Downy Woodpecker

Loggerhead Shrike with prey

Magpie

Sandhill Crane

Cedar Waxwing

Belted Kingfisher

Atlantic Puffin

(19,579 posts)All wonderful, but my personal favorites are Goldfinch, Downy Woodpecker and damn I realized I was in the process of listing them all.

The branch the Downy Woodpecker is sitting is perfect yet doesnt take away from the main attraction. The Cedar Waxing is exquisite and the same, the background is wonderful and supports not distracts from the star.
I look forward to seeing more as you finish them! How about a hummingbird?
Think. Again.

(8,528 posts)Stunningly gorgeous. I feel as if I'm looking at a rare 19th-century book of bird illustrations.
I don't know which I love more: the beauty of the birds, who feel so alive, or the beauty of the artist's patient observation, which is just as visible as the birds.

(128,014 posts)Maybe I'll do a few more birds. Wish I could take my own photos that were good enough to use as references. Audubon and many others painted directly from real birds before the days of photography, except that the birds were dead. I'll stick to photographs...

Thank you for sharing! I love the Kingfisher especially, as my Z photographs them here quite often. But also the cedar waxwing, and the puffin, and, and well you know I love them all!
