Californians are beginning to receive their mail-in ballots for the Nov. 4 election, but officials caution that dropping one in the mailbox on Election Day could mean it wont be counted.
This is because of U.S. Postal Service processing delays set in motion earlier this year, state officials said at a news conference on Thursday.
For residents who live in certain zip codes, mail now is collected the next day, Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley Weber announced.
Those who live 50 miles or more from these six regional mail processing facilities in California are urged not to mail a ballot on Nov. 4: Los Angeles, Bell Gardens, San Diego, Santa Clarita, Richmond and West Sacramento.

(1,677 posts)at about 4:30 in the afternoon, they close at 5pm. I attempted to drop 4 postage-paid parcels in the parcel chute but to no avail. The clerk at the desk told me I should take them to another post office across town in a different city. I was told, they lack the equipment to process the mail for that day. I have never experienced that before. I told the clerk, I needed the dated postmark on those packages and I was leaving them because I wouldn't make it by closing to the other location. I got a shrug and was directed to leave them on the counter.
I didn't blame the clerk or anybody else at the facility. I blamed DeJoy and DOGE and the Administration for ruining a system that worked and you could always count on.
That a-hole Felon breaks everything he touches including the morale of people that made the USPS the dependable institution it was. What a damn shame.

(2,672 posts)or within hours that are part of their normal posted operating schedule. I live where I could go to any of several other post offices if necessary, but what if a post office elsewhere has a similar situation and it's the only one available to the local community?
Also, I mailed a card to a family member who lives 4 miles away, and it took 3 days for them to receive it.
They wanted to "deconstruct the administrative state." The cracks they created intentionally are running across everything, and getting wider.
