In an Instagram story, US cellist Seth Parker Woods announced that he and violinist Hilary Hahn would be withdrawing from three upcoming performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, US. ... Woods and Hahn were scheduled to perform the world premiere of Carlos Simon’s Double Concerto Suite for violin, cello and and orchestra alongside the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, on 12, 13 and 14 March.

Woods stated on social media:

‘We have chosen to withdraw from our concerts at the Kennedy Center this March. We are sorry to not be with our friends and colleagues at the National Symphony Orchestra and hope to perform with them again in the future.’

The Kennedy Center website’s concert page has been updated accordingly. It now states that the performance will go ahead with NSO associate concertmaster Ying Fu and NSO assistant principal cello Raymond Tsai playing the solo parts.

The statement comes following several high-profile classical music cancellations at the Kennedy Center. Most recently, composer Philip Glass withdrew the premiere performance of his Lincoln symphony, stating that the centre’s values were in ‘direct conflict’ with the symphony’s message. ... It also follows Hahn’s recent return to the stage, after having cancelled mutiple concerts throughout 2025 due to injury.
