Penobscot candidates face off in the select board election
PENOBSCOT Two candidates, Scott Ferden and Vivian Turner Welts, both have their sights set on being the next select board member. Ferden, who ran in 2025 but did not win, is more serious this year, while Turner Welts is running for the first time. The elected candidate will join Harold Hatch and Sara Leighton.
The Observer spoke to both candidates to find out their priorities and reasons for running.
Turner Welts describes herself as someone who tells it like it is, and after serving on the financial committee for two years, she is ready to take on a broader role. She grew up in Penobscot, went to school in town, attended church locally, and served in the local Girl Scouts. This is my town, so much more than acreage on the map. It is home.
When asked about her goals, she said, I hope to serve the town with an eye to the future, and on the past as well taking care of the people who have always lived in town and those that are new, building a bridge between the two groups.
