DSA-backed candidates win numerous NYC races on primary night
In addition to the congressional primary victories of Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier both backed by the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America candidates endorsed by the organization at the state level picked up numerous victories Tuesday night.
According to the Associated Press, Samantha Kattan beat two other candidates in state Assembly District 37 (Queens); David Orkin beat incumbent Jennifer Rajkumar in state Assembly District 38 (Queens); Christian Tate beat incumbent Erik Dilan in state Assembly District 54 (Brooklyn); Eon Huntley beat incumbent Stefani Zinerman in state Assembly District 56 (Brooklyn); Illapa Sairitupac beat several challengers in state Assembly District 65; and Aber Kawas beat Steven Raga in state Senate District 12 (Queens).
Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed each candidate backed by the DSA, except for Conrad Blackburn.
As of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, only a single race involving a DSA-backed candidate was yet to be called, according to the Associated Press. In that race, non-DSA incumbent Jordan Wright, the son of longtime Manhattan Democratic Party leader Keith Wright, was leading DSA-backed Conrad Blackburn.
