Early voting underway for 2025 Charlotte primary election: Where to vote, how to register, more

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Early voting was underway at the end of August for the 2025 primary election in Charlotte.

Charlotte is the only city in Mecklenburg County that will hold a primary election ahead of this year’s general election. Charlotte’s Primary Election Day will take place on Sept. 9, and the early voting period begins on Thursday, Aug. 21.

These elections are for offices on the local level that make decisions affecting residents’ day-to-day lives, like local taxes, trash services, policing and more. Two examples are mayors and council members.

The municipal general election for the other towns in Mecklenburg County and board of education representatives will be held on Nov. 4.
