Hundreds of voting advocates challenge new election law bill at Raleigh protest

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Voting rights advocates are speaking out against a sweeping election overhaul bill, saying it will create barriers to voting.

“I want to let the legislature know that we are not okay with them taking away the rights of people to vote,” Voting advocate Allison Jacokes said.

House Bill 598, known as the Election Law Changes bill, would require post-election audits and expand post-election ballot challenges.

It would also prohibit election officials from encouraging voter turnout.
