RUN FOR SOMETHING: Athena Aguiar Eugene City Council, Ward 5
Athena knows North Eugene. As a former Sheldon High School student, she was President of the Gender Sexuality Alliance and a member of the Asian Student Union which helped her in taking on leadership roles.
After graduating she focused on environmental studies; receiving her Bachelors in Biology from Coe College, and later returning to Eugene to work for the Walama Restoration project where she maintained and restored threatened ecosystems in critical watersheds. She then worked as a timber cruiser for a brief stint before beginning at the Fund For The Public Interest to help bolster ecological progress and conservation efforts.
Athena currently is a major component at many community advocacy groups, Eugene City Council meetings, Toxics Board, and the Police Commission- as well as serving on the Library Advisory Board.
Being on City Council would give her a unique opportunity to represent the public for the most pressing issues currently facing Eugene such as: its housing crises, deteriorating sanctuary laws, and public safety concerns. It would also give her a chance to build the community we want by funding public parks, services, and by standing up for the working people and their rights.
