Tax hike for new Norton Middle School roof on April election ballot

NORTON -- Residents at the April 11 annual town election will vote on a proposed tax hike to pay for a new roof for the middle school.

School committee members are looking to get approval for a $11.4 million full replacement of the Norton Middle School roof.

Select board members last week voted to approve a ballot question for the election for a tax hike via a debt exclusion from state tax levy-limiting Proposition 2 1/2.

In October, school committee members decided not to seek approval for $4.5 million to repair the middle school roof after conversations with the Massachusetts School Building Authority, an operations project manager and architect.
