Utah primary turnout lags expectations as Election Day approaches

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — With less than 24 hours until polls close in Utah's primary election, voter turnout remains well below levels typically seen in congressional primary years despite several closely watched races across the state.

According to the Utah Lieutenant Governor's Office, statewide turnout stood at 19.6% as of Monday morning.

In Salt Lake County, the state's most populous county, turnout was slightly higher at 26%.

The numbers fall short of the roughly 40% turnout Utah has historically seen in congressional primary elections, though we still have one more day to meet or exceed those numbers.
