Walla Walla, College Place City Council candidates meet at public election forum

Affordable housing and jobs have stood out so far as topical issues in Walla Walla for candidates running for City Council in the 2025 general election.

Economic challenges more broadly, efficient government and infrastructure needs were added to the conversation at a Thursday, Oct. 2, forum that included candidates for both Walla Walla and College Place City Council races.

The forum hosted at Walla Walla Community College was emceed by Rob Blethen and moderated by two longtime Walla Walla City Council members and former mayors, Barbara Clark and Dominick Elia.

Walla Walla City Council candidates in attendance included Rick Eskil and Melissa Shumake in Position 1; Jeff Strickler in Position 2; and Carolyn Knowles and Gustavo Reyna in Position 3. Rodney Outlaw in Position 2 had a prior commitment to a donation event at Wildwood Park and sent Jeff Duquette as his representative.
