Adopt A Stream will host bat and bird events on Saturday

EVERETT — Adopt A Stream Foundation is hosting two events on Saturday for bird and bat enthusiasts alike.

From 10 a.m. to noon at the Northwest Stream Center, 600 128th St. SE, Audubon Society master birder Gale Boyer will lead an introductory session on birding before leading a walk along the center’s boardwalk. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars.

At 1 p.m., Barbara Ogaard, a researcher at Bat’s Northwest who rehabilitates injured bats, will present at the stream center. Also known as “The Bat Lady,” Ogaard will discuss the benefits of bats, and some real-life bats will make an appearance during the presentation.

“The Bat Lady puts on quite a show,” said Adopt A Stream Foundation Director Tom Murdoch. “Barbara has this unique ability to engage little kids and old graybeards at the same time.”

1. i have talked to the bat rehab lady, Barbara....

.. I have a 'nursery' in my eaves...about 12 inhabitants..moms and pups. Occasionally one of them will land on my deck injured and I have bat rescue on my quick dial. Im in Central Wash and the rescues are far East of me or far West of me. Barbara has called me and we've talked about ways to lessen the injuries of the bats I find.

Ive come to respect bat but I no longer fear them.
