Starbucks lays off 369 WA employees following store closures

Nearly two weeks after Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) announced it would close hundreds of stores nationwide, the extent of its layoffs in Washington state has come to light.

In a Friday state filing, the Seattle-based coffee giant said it will lay off 369 workers statewide, with an expected separation date of Dec. 5. The filing attributed the layoffs to the closures.

Employees were paid through their Oct. 5 scheduled shifts, according to a Starbucks representative, and the company will offer severance benefits such as health care premiums if employees are enrolled.

The job cuts come as CEO Brian Niccol looks to improve the company's weak financial performance as part of a "Back to Starbucks" turnaround plan he launched soon after taking the helm in 2024.
